That wide plank at the shear line is called a Harpin. You don't see them very often on East Coast boats, it seems to be a West Coast technique. I thought it worked well on the Osprey and allows the structure to be sawn out rather than bent into place around the frames. You can also see how wide the side decks are on the Osprey, allowing you to walk all the way around when you are chasing that big Tarpon!
